Workshop on Self-Defence (Kalaripayattu) Held at IIT Dharwad

A workshop on Self-Defence (Kalaripayattu) — the ancient Indian martial art form renowned for its blend of grace, strength, and discipline — was successfully conducted at IIT Dharwad on 11th October 2025 at CLT F-600.

The session was led by Mr. Ashan Nikhil Varagiri, a practitioner and trainer of Kalaripayattu, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of this traditional martial art, including basic combat techniques, body control, and the underlying philosophy of discipline and focus. The workshop emphasized the importance of self-defence, physical fitness, and mental alertness, while showcasing India’s rich cultural and martial heritage.

Participants enthusiastically engaged in the hands-on demonstrations and interactive exercises, gaining practical insights into how traditional practices like Kalaripayattu contribute to personal safety, discipline, and overall well-being. The initiative was organized by the Student Welfare Office, IIT Dharwad, and was well-received for promoting awareness about India’s indigenous art forms and their continued relevance in contemporary life.
