IIT Dharwad introduces Cultural Appreciation courses in Fine and Performing arts as part of its undergraduate curriculum.
Recognizing the crucial role of Arts and Aesthetics in discovering one’s innate talents, IIT Dharwad has introduced a series of courses in Performing and Visual Arts as part of its regular curriculum for students of Science and Engineering programs.
Skills acquired through the newly introduced National Cultural Appreciation (NCA) courses complement other Co Curricular activities (CCA) such as NCC, NSS and NSO from which students can choose from. Students learn Arts, Crafts, Indian Dance and Music forms under invited experts.
Students get engrossed in classroom and Studio activities of their liking and have reported freedom from accumulated stress. Art therapy, which is part of these courses, helps students to cope with stress apart from discovering their innate tastes and skills in areas other than Sciences and technology. Besides encouraging creative output such courses introduce theoretical nuances of traditional Indian art, craft and culture.
